A basic summary of most mental health conditions likely to affect children & young people.

SELF-ESTEEM

How we value and perceive ourselves. It's based on our opinions and beliefs about ourselves, which can feel difficult to change. We might also think of this as self-confidence.

SLEEP PROBLEMS

Living with a mental health problem can affect how well you sleep, and poor sleep can have a negative impact on your mental health.

SUICIDAL FEELINGS

Suicide is the act of intentionally taking your own life.

Suicidal feelings can mean having abstract thoughts about ending your life or feeling that people would be better off without you. Or it can mean thinking about methods of suicide or making clear plans to take your own life.

TRAUMA

Going through very stressful, frightening or distressing events.

SELF-HARM

When you hurt yourself as a way of dealing with very difficult feelings, painful memories or overwhelming situations and experiences.

STRESS

Stress is how we react when we feel under pressure or threatened. It usually happens when we are in a situation that we don't feel we can manage or control.

TARDIVE DYSKINESIA

A condition where your face, body or both make sudden, irregular movements which you cannot control.
